This is an intervention summary from the MSD for employment (MSD4E) landscape assessment which was undertaken by the MSD4E Community of Practice and funded by the ILO, Mercy Corps and Swisscontact. It is based on self-reported information from individual MSD programmes, reviewed and compiled in a common structure to enable learning across the field of MSD4E.
To target marginalised young people in Mombasa, Kenya, Kuza selected sectors with lower barriers to entry with the potential to offer significant numbers of entry-level roles.
Micro-retail was one of these sectors. Kuza worked with local entrepreneurs to establish a micro-distribution model that linked large consumer goods suppliers to micro-retail outlets around the city.
