This is an intervention summary from the MSD for employment (MSD4E) landscape assessment which was undertaken by the MSD4E Community of Practice and funded by the ILO, Mercy Corps and Swisscontact. It is based on self-reported information from individual MSD programmes, reviewed and compiled in a common structure to enable learning across the field of MSD4E.
The intervention targets youth transitioning out of pastoralism, offering market-based short-term skills training, internships, and placement opportunities.
It tackles challenges such as skill mismatches, low training quality, lack of awareness and financial constraints hindering youth from securing self-employment or wage jobs.
The intervention comprises four phases:
- labour market assessment
- enrolment
- internship and placement
- tracer study and evaluation
By enhancing the relevance, quality and accessibility of courses, the intervention aims to boost employment creation through short-term skills training.
