This survey provides a detailed overview of Georgia’s evolving honey sector.

Conducted by the ALCP2 programme, it analyses 39 honey businesses and data from the popular Facebook group “Georgian Bees,” with over 34,000 members.

The report finds that honey companies engaged in export and formal markets process and collect more honey from a broader network of beekeepers than those selling locally. Small-scale beekeepers still rely heavily on informal sales, but access to formal markets has expanded significantly since 2014, when the sector was largely unstructured.

The survey also explores how business type, scale and Georgian Beekeeping Union membership affect market access and productivity. Additionally, the study highlights the influential role of social media in uniting and educating beekeepers, with the Georgian Bees group serving as a vital hub for knowledge sharing, support and market connections.

The findings inform programme strategy and underscore the sector's progress and remaining challenges.
