This case study is part of RECONOMY's inception phase in Armenia and Moldova.
The textiles and apparel sector significantly contributes to social and economic development in Armenia and Moldova. This sector is a significant source of formal jobs. It gives women, especially young women from rural areas, important work alternatives.
To support the sector to remain competitive in both domestic and global markets, RECONOMY facilitated the design and implementation of a pilot intervention with its main goal to increase economic opportunities by improving the competitiveness and sustainability in the textiles and apparel sector in Armenia and Moldova.
As a result, the staff of SMEs, start-ups, designers, and students have started increasing their skills and knowledge with the support of skills development providers. This case study includes examples of each of these success stories.
Intervention description
In Armenia, RECONOMY partnered with the Fashion and Design Chamber to develop business, technical and sustainable fashion skills among designers, students and sector representatives. This included training modules on social media marketing, profitability and sustainability, attended by 50 participants, mostly women.
In Moldova, the partnership with ZIPhouse led to the development of an acceleration programme for start-ups and designers, focusing on branding, legal advising, marketing and sustainable fashion.
This programme’s results measurement system underwent a pre-audit review using the DCED Standard.
