This brief describes the Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets (FtF IAM) Activity's efforts to promote the production of Iron-Rich Beans (IRB) in the Karamoja sub-region of Uganda, a region with high rates of malnutrition and anaemia.

The intervention focuses on partnering with farmer groups and commercial farmers to produce Quality Declared Seeds (QDS) for IRB, aiming to improve local nutrition, enhance agricultural productivity, and reduce reliance on imported seeds.

Challenges included insufficient technical knowledge, high risk of crop failure due to weather, and limited market access. Despite these, the project recorded successes, such as increased yields in the second season and strengthened partnerships with research organisations such as NARO.

The document is useful for development partners, government agencies, and agribusiness stakeholders seeking to understand scalable approaches to improving food security and fostering sustainable agricultural practices in marginalised regions.
