This brief outlines the efforts of the Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity (FtF IAM) to enhance food safety and certification in Uganda's agricultural sector.
It focuses on using Sector Wide Training (SWT) and technical assistance to encourage agro-processors to adopt quality standards and attain certification from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).
By improving practices, investing in facility upgrades, and obtaining certification, processors can produce higher-quality, safer food, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance market competitiveness.
The study highlights the resulting benefits, such as cost savings, reduced product rejection, and increased sales, and underscores the role of enforcement, industry associations, and tailored support services in driving these changes. The initiative aims to catalyse sustainable market development, increase farmer incomes, and improve nutrition in Uganda.
