Livelihoods Improvement for Women and Youth (LIWAY) is a nine year programme (2017 - 2026) focused on sustainable poverty reduction and social stability through improved livelihoods in Addis Ababa - creating jobs and increased incomes for women and youth.
Intervention description
The LIWAY programme implemented multiple interventions across four key market systems: labour, micro and small enterprises (MSE), medium and large enterprises (MLE), and skills systems.
The interventions aimed to improve access to better-paying jobs, reduce barriers to business entry and growth, enhance production management capabilities and improve skills development.
Key activities included developing physical and online platforms for job matching, piloting job fairs, providing business development services and supporting financial guarantor schemes. The programme worked with various public and private partners such as BoLSA, Enat Bank, TaskMoby, and several producer organisations. These partners adopted the promoted models, contributing to increased employment and income opportunities for the target groups, including women and youth.
