Significant achievements include increased private sector investment, higher additional income for beneficiaries, and substantial growth in value of additional market transactions.

The report also covers MDF’s strategic shifts, collaborations, and exit from Papua New Guinea.

Intervention description

The MDF annual report 2023 outlines specific interventions that included partnering with private companies and government agencies to improve market systems.

For example, in Fiji, MDF collaborated with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation to develop the Fiji Enterprise Engine, a business accelerator programme supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through training and access to markets.

Another intervention in Pakistan involved working with agricultural input suppliers to improve the distribution of quality seeds to farmers, resulting in increased productivity and income for the farmers. Programme partners showed positive responses, with many adopting the desired business models and demonstrating ownership by continuing these practices beyond programme support.

This programme’s results measurement system has passed an audit against the DCED Standard.
