A market systems analysis prepared at inception to inform the design of a four-year seed and commodity access programme.
It examines three components - community engagement through community-owned enterprises, private sector engagement, and participatory action research - centred on small grains (sorghum and millet) and legumes (cowpea and groundnut) in selected districts of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The analysis maps formal and farmer-managed seed systems, the policy and legal frameworks shaping them, and the actors and supporting functions across both seed and commodity value chains. Constraint and opportunity tables, gender and social inclusion considerations, climate adaptation, and HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 factors run throughout.
