The ILO compiled a portfolio of 135 completed market systems development (MSD) programmes. Of these, 97 were drawn from publicly available data and an additional 38 were collected through outreach to key MSD donors and implementers.
The ILO reviewed project documentation, including final reports, external evaluations, programmes logframes and information published on project websites against a set of outcome and impact indicators that were common across many MSD projects.
Based on this assessment, 86 projects were shortlisted for further review and analysis.

The calculator allows MSD donors and implementers to select broad dimensions relevant for their programme context (project duration, scale, country income, etc.), and review a synthesis of results from similar projects across impact and outcome indicators. Results should be interpreted with caution as some conditions may contain too few projects to base concrete findings on.
