Propcom+ is focused on climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture in Nigeria’s conflict- and climate-affected regions.
The annual review finds that the programme has made strong progress despite Nigeria’s challenging economic and security environment. It successfully engaged 196,808 people (55 per cent women) with climate-smart agriculture and market access, exceeding several key targets. 592 market actors were facilitated to invest in climate-smart and biofortified markets, and policy roadmaps were completed in Kano and Kaduna.
Key challenges include inflation (40 per cent food inflation), Naira depreciation, insecurity, and limited access to finance. Staff turnover affected delivery, but Palladium responded effectively.
Lessons highlight finance as a critical constraint, the need for better intervention design, and the importance of market assessments integrating cross-cutting themes. The programme exceeded expectations in piloting business models, early policy engagement and expanding sustainable land use.
Recommendations focus on scaling access to finance, refining interventions, enhancing policy advocacy, and strengthening monitoring to ensure sustained impact and climate resilience in Nigeria’s agricultural markets.
