GROW Liberia was an agribusiness and investment advisory programme that partnered with businesses, investors, associations and government agencies to accelerate inclusive economic returns within high-growth agricultural industries in Liberia. GROW concluded in June 2022.

Five sectors were included in GROW’s portfolio. It focused on cocoa and vegetables but also worked within the rubber, agro-processing and oil palm sectors.

This is GROW’s final report. It includes an overview of the programme’s sector and cross-cutting thematic activity, learning and recommendations. The report also details GROW’s impact results and technical and management approach.

Intervention description

Specific interventions covered included promoting good agricultural practices (GAP) and establishing supply chain relationships in the cocoa and vegetable sectors.

Activities involved training farmers on GAP, building solar dryers for cocoa fermentation and drying, and facilitating market access through cooperatives. The project partnered with various stakeholders including cooperatives, commercial farms, and exporters. Business models promoted included centralised cocoa processing facilities and traceability systems. Project partners responded positively, with 69 per cent of cooperatives adopting GAP and seeing a 36 per cent increase in yields for households where both men and women were trained.

Most partners indicated they would continue using the promoted models beyond the project's support.
