Climate change and biodiversity loss stem from market systems that drive unsustainable growth - fixing them means transforming how markets operate.
The Green MSD framework rethinks how markets can serve people, climate and nature together, recognising that economies depend on healthy natural systems. It builds on traditional MSD approaches by addressing climate change, biodiversity loss and poverty reduction in tandem, while opening the MSD toolkit to a wider audience of practitioners working on climate change and biodiversity conservation.
The lead authors of the Green MSD framework, Tom Hilton and Andrew Panton, introduced the new framework and discuss plans to roll out its implementation. This was followed by perspectives from the field:
- Kevin Seely discussed the importance of market systems thinking in conservation
- Sabine Jiekak provided insights from her time leading integrated conservation and development projects for USAID in the Congo Basin
